Libra
For the past half year, we've been creating our typography at typo classes. This subject is... was my very very very fav subject because ofcourse, there was a lot of practical work involved. Actually it was all practical ^_^. For once we didnt do just theory.
So, our job was to create our own font. I started with doodling in my sketchbook and generally had no idea how my font would look like. I almost went for my own handwriting, which is pretty minimalistic and looks like a linear font.
But making a handwritten font isn't really useful for longer paragraphs so I had to do a lil research. After checking out loads of fonts installed on my mac, I decided for a slab serif font with a prettier circular terminals on the top.
I honestly had NO idea that making a font required so much time and nerves. I also understand why the pro fonts are so expensive now.
We were also told that we needed to make a poster to present our font. Hehe, first, naming the font was like... huh? Then I couldn't come up with anything so instead of naming it nelifont, I named it Libra (being libra myself) coz it sounds nice. And it looks nice XD
I had a week to make this poster and until today (I have to bring it in tomorrow), I had no friggin idea how to present it. It was probably one of the very few projects for which I had no idea what to do. It hit me this morning that I could do a type libra, and I started working on it at 10am.
Lol, a friend of mine said that making this poster could take a while, especially coz I was making it. Boy, was he right. I spend 6-7 hours on this poster. The letters were killing me towards the end, and It was kind of cruel for my poor photoshop. The background used is from ofruin-stock
The paragraph down below is in slovene. If you wanna know what it says let me know and I'll translate it.
Edit: Here's a rough translation of the text in the poster
"Among the brick houses, the light caught in the fog draws a black silhouette of the night walker. The ground frozen with snow uncover a shadow, but they know not its way. A yellow light on top of the hill leads him around the corner of a street to a wall of the sleeping souls. Only the branches of the tall willows this night, mourn with them. On the other side of the dark cemetery the sounds of late drivers motors thunder in the late hours. The shadow, once again on the street, changes into a picture of a boy with floppy hair whose look is turned into the foggy end of the street. Trough the smells of the chicken, fried in an old oil, the sound of footsteps are hidden under the scaffold. The water drops fall from the boards onto the cold iron framework from which they make their last jump into the underground. A big white cat in the showcase window observes the hidden shadow. The boy continues his way past the houses with no curtains, towards the lake on the other side of an old castle. Somewhere in the fog above the ice a sea gull screams."
and here's a lil closeup of the libra. The poster size is 50x70cm.
Phew, this was a long rambling post hehe. Now I'll return to bashing my skull against the wall coz I have to finish the Face recognition project *sigh*... also until tomorrow heheh. I love being me...
